DANIEL ISLAND — Firefighters spent more than five hours battling a blaze at a large, two-story office building this morning.

Charleston firefighters responded to the fire at 899 Island Park Dr. at 2:38 a.m., Deputy Chief John Tippett said.

The second story and the roof were engulfed in flames. The roof collapsed shortly after they arrived, Tippett said.

The first floor had water and smoke damage.

No injuries were reported.

No one was hurt in the fire.

The building contains several suites occupied by private and medical offices such as Parkwood Pediatrics and the MUSC Weight Loss Center.

Firefighters remained on scene Tuesday afternoon to prevent it from re-igniting

It's still unknown whether the structure can be salvaged, Ruppel said.

The damage was so extensive that it may be a while until an investigation can determine what caused the fire, he said.
