Parrot Heads

The Lowcountry Parrot Head Club will hold its regular monthly meeting at 6:30 p.m. Feb. 15 at Red's Ice House on Shem Creek in Mount Pleasant.

The club will concentrate on final preparations for its biggest fundraiser of the year -- "Mardi Crawl."

Shepherd's Center

The Shepherd's Center of East Cooper will meet Feb. 15 at Mount Pleasant Presbyterian Church Fellowship Hall, 302 Hibben St. The public is invited.

The first program at 10 a.m. will feature Jeff Stone speaking on "Boeing Comes to Charleston," At 11:15 a.m., Boris Bohunchudj will speak on "What a Life."

Newcomers

The women of the East Cooper Newcomers Club invite members, guests, new residents and recent retirees to attend the monthly luncheon meeting at 10 a.m. Feb. 16 at Carrabba's Italian Grill, U.S. Highway 17, Mount Pleasant. Dr. Lars Runquist, a cardiologist, will speak.

Mad Hatter Tea

The Frances Lynn Young Guild will host its second annual Mad Hatter Tea 2-5 p.m. Feb. 27 for children ages 3-11 accompanied by an adult.

The tea will take place at the Omar Shrine Temple, 176 Patriots Point Road, Mount Pleasant.

Magicians, puppeteers, face-painters and more will perform, and local children's book authors will attend. All proceeds will benefit the guild, a women's volunteer organization that supports the mission of Lowcountry Orphan Relief.

Admission is $10 for adults, $5 for children under 12 and one new children's book for LOR.

9.12 Project

The Mount Pleasant 9.12 Project will meet Feb. 10 at the Point Grill at Omar Shrine Hall, 176 Patriots Point Road.

Meet and greet is at 6 p.m., and the meeting starts at 6:30. Room fee is $3.

The Charleston Chapter of the S.C. Genealogical Society will meet at 2:30 p.m. Feb. 20 at the Masonic Center, 1285 Orange Grove, West Ashley.

Christina Shedlock will speak on "Land Records: A Crash Course on Terminology, Types, and Their Applications for Genealogists."

The General Marion's Brigade Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution will have its next meeting Feb. 12 and will feature speaker Barry Jurs.

Eliza Pinckney DAR

The Eliza Lucas Pinckney Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution will meet Feb. 13 at the Old Exchange Building, Broad and East Bay streets, downtown Charleston.

A 2 p.m. social will be followed by a meeting at 2:30 p.m.

Students from Charleston area schools whose essays received the DAR Good Citizens Award will read those essays, and they and their parents will be honored guests.

Visitors, guests and potential prospective members are welcome.

Austen Society

The Jane Austen Society will meet at 1:30 p.m. Feb. 19 at the Berkeley Electric Building, 3351 Maybank Highway, Johns Island.

The program, led by Gail Trummell, will focus on the connections of Aunt Philadelphia to India and Eliza to France.

The International Association of Administrative Professionals Charleston Chapter will meet Feb. 28 at the Lonnie Hamilton III Public Services Building, 4045 Bridge View Drive, North Charleston.

Arts Guild

Learn about shibori, a Japanese textile dye and manipulation technique, at a Palmetto Fiber Arts Guild meeting 2-4 p.m. Feb. 19 at the Charleston Area Senior Center, 256 Meeting St., downtown Charleston.

Meri-Go-Rounds

Lessons will be starting for round dancing-ballroom dancing to cues.

Cost: 20 classes at $5 each. Two-step and waltz will be the first steps taught, followed by foxtrot, Latin dances and jive.
