Strike while the iron's hot

Wade Spees/The Post and Courier
A small crowd gathers around Colonial Williamsburg-based blacksmith journeymen Steve Mankowski (left) and Sheldon Browder to watch them extract iron from very hot ore as an early step in an iron-smelting demonstration on Friday at the American College of the Building Arts. Forged architectural ironwork is one of programs offered at the school, located at the Old City Jail on Magazine Street, to train artisans in the building arts.
