State troopers arrested a North Charleston police officer Saturday on a charge of driving under the influence in Colleton County.

S.C. Highway Patrol officials said they found 25-year-old Nick Lomma at the scene of a collision on Bennetts Point Road in Green Pond shortly before 8 a.m. Troopers took Lomma first to Colleton Medical Center, then to the Colleton County Jail.

He posted $997 bail Saturday, according to jail staff. Highway Patrol officials declined to release further information about the arrest "until trial."

North Charleston police spokesman Spencer Pryor said he did not have details available Saturday night about Lomma's employment status or how long he has been with the department.

"This incident will be addressed by the department on Monday," Pryor said.

Lomma drove a 2009 Ford Crown Victoria at the time of the accident, according to troopers.

Pryor said Saturday night that the car appears to be Lomma's personal vehicle and not a part of the police department's fleet.
