If you love a parade, you're in luck as plenty of processions will hit the byways of the Lowcountry in the next couple of weekends.
There will be lots of opportunities to see bands, Scout troops, dance schools and, with any luck, the jolliest of the old elves, Santa himself.
Here's a roundup of events:
Hanahan: The annual Exchange Club Parade begins at 10 a.m. It starts at Hanahan High School and travels on Murray Drive to Belvedere Drive to Loftis Road to Yeamans Hall Road to Murray Drive, ending back at the high school. The Hanahan Police Department will detour motorists from the section of Murray Drive in front of the high school as early as 8:30 a.m.
North Charleston: The Christmas Festival and Parade starts at 4 p.m. with entertainment, children's activities, carriage rides, food and more around Park Circle and the Felix C. Davis Community Center. The Christmas Parade starts at 6 p.m. at Montague and Mixson avenues and concludes at Armory Park. It is followed by the tree lighting. Call 740-5854.
Charleston: Participants in the 31st annual Charleston Parade of Boats will gather around 4:30 p.m. and the parade starts at 5 p.m. on the Mount Pleasant side near Shem Creek. It goes around the peninsula and ends in the Ashley River around 7 p.m. Call 724-7414.
Moncks Corner: The Moncks Corner parade starts at 3 p.m. at Berkeley High School and ends at Main Street Extension. It is followed by the town's tree lighting at 5:30 p.m. Call 899-4708.
Charleston: The 30th annual Charleston Christmas Parade, sponsored by the Tri-County Fire Chief's Association, starts at 2 p.m. at Marion Square and goes down King Street, Broad Street and Lockwood Drive. Call 720-1981.
Ridgeville: The Ridgeville Christmas Parade starts at noon. Lineup time is 11 a.m. The parade route is from Ridge Road to Clayhill Middle School. Call 871-7960.
Folly Beach: The Folly Beach Christmas Parade starts at 1 p.m. and is expecting more than 110 groups to participate in the march down Center Street. Line-up starts at 11 a.m. Call 708-1113.
Edisto: The 20th annual Edisto Christmas Parade's theme is "An ACE Basin Christmas." The route will be from the 400 block to the 100 block of Palmetto Boulevard. The parade starts at 2 p.m. and is followed by the boat parade on Bay Creek at 5 p.m. More than 20 decorated boats and kayaks will participate. Contact 869-3867 or www.edistochamber.com.
Hollywood: This year's theme is "Hollywood's Got Talent." The lineup starts at noon at Baptist Hill High School. The parade will begin at 2 p.m.
Summerville: The Summerville parade's theme is "A Patriotic Christmas: A Salute to our Troops Overseas." The parade starts at 2 p.m. and goes from West 4th Street to South Main Street, turning right on Richardson Avenue, right on Cedar Street to West Luke Avenue and finishing on North Laurel Street. Mount Pleasant: More than 100 illuminated floats are expected to participate in Mount Pleasant's 15th annual parade following the tree lighting, set for 5:30 p.m. It starts at Coleman and Pelzer drives and continues past Shem Creek and concludes at the Sea Island Shopping Center. Description: Visitors take a horse-drawn carriage to three historic establishments.
