One man was killed Tuesday when two logging trucks collided on U.S. Highway 21 near Ruffin, authorities said.

Johnny Sellers, 28, of Branchville was pronounced dead on the scene, Colleton County Coroner Richard Harvey said.

Sellers was driving a logging truck south on U.S. 21 near Hydrick Road about 4:30 p.m. when another logging truck attempted to turn off a side road onto the highway, said Lance Cpl. Sonny Collins of the S.C. Highway Patrol. The driver of the second truck, who was not injured, failed to yield the right of way to Sellers, Collins said.

The collision sent logs from the second truck onto the cab of Sellers' truck, further pinning him in the cab, authorities said. Rescuers from Colleton County Fire-Rescue were unable to free Sellers' body from the cab until heavy equipment was used to remove the logs from the wreck. U.S. 21 was closed for several hours.

No charges were filed, but the accident remains under investigation by the Highway Patrol, Collins said.
