Dogs rescued from burning West Ashley home
Firefighters rescued two dogs from a burning home this morning.
The fire was reported about 9:58 a.m. at 2080 Piper Dr. in West Ashley. No people were home at the time but firefighters found two dogs inside, according to Mark Ruppel, Charleston Fire department public information officer.
Ruppel said Charleston and St. Andrews firefighters rescued the dogs and used special oxygen masks for animals to treat them. Both are on the way to a veterinarian, he said.
It appears the fire started in the kitchen. Ruppel said there was significant damage but firefighters were able to extinguish the fire quickly.
"The guys did a tremendous job getting those dogs," Ruppel said.
