Charleston orthodontist Dr. Robert Calcote has been elected as president of the Southern Association of Orthodontists.

Marlena Franklin of Coldwell Banker Commercial Atlantic International Inc. represented the tenant, PJ Treasures, and landlord in leasing the 1,700 square feet of industrial flex space at 3204 Heaton Drive in Ladson.

The Mortgage Lenders Association of Greater Charleston has been named South Carolina's association of the year by the Mortgage Bankers Association of the Carolinas.

The Charleston chapter of the American Marketing Association has named the recipients of this year's Spark! Awards for Marketing Excellence in South Carolina. Kay Hyman, director of marketing and public relations for the Charleston Animal Society, was named 2010 Marketer of the Year. Other recipients were: Level wing Media, for excellence in social media; Obviouslee Marketing, excellence for an event; Rawle Murdy, excellence in business; Slant Media, excellence in interactive media; Step Ahead Inc., excellence in generating interest around a topic perceived as lacking interest; and Wings for Kids, excellence in nonprofit.

Robert R. Hill Jr., president and chief executive officer of SCBT Financial Corp. and CEO of South Carolina Bank and Trust, was named Independent Banker of the Year by the Independent Banks of South Carolina.
