Historic Beaufort Foundation festival: The annual Fall Festival of Houses and Gardens sponsored by the Historic Beaufort Foundation is set for Oct. 22-24. It takes place in Beaufort's National Historic Landmark District. Visitors will tour 18th-, 19th- and 20th-century structures in a range of architectural styles. Advance tickets recommended. S.C. Native Plant Society: The Lowcountry Chapter of the South Carolina Native Plant Society and Charles Towne Landing will hold a native plant sale 9 a.m.-noon Oct. 23 in the parking lot of Charles Towne Landing, 1500 Old Towne Road. A free rain garden demonstration will be at 10 a.m. Perennials, shrubs, trees, ferns and native grasses will be available; cash or check only. Admission to the plant sale is free. Those exploring the historic site should pay the entrance fee at the visitor center. Admission is adults $7.50, seniors $3.75, children 6-15 $3.50 and children 5 and under free. Volunteers NEEded: The city of Charleston Greenhouse is seeking volunteers to join the Stewards of Hampton Park and help sow seeds, transplant and install garden beds. The need for volunteers at all levels of experience is ongoing. Call 958-6434 to sign up.

Flowerscapes for sponsorship: Those interested in becoming a flowerscape sponsor can help Keep North Charleston Beautiful by maintaining an existing flower bed in a city park. Some maintenance tasks include weeding, installing pine straw, deadheading flowers and pruning.
