Hirai captures Jr. All-Star title

Reona Hirai of Summerville won the Hilton Head Junior All-Star American Junior Golf Association (AJGA) tournament played at Berkeley Hall in Bluffton. Hirai shot 69-73-76--218 and scored a five-shot victory over Alexandra White of Honolulu. Rachel Dai of Suwanee, Ga., was third at 224.

Hirai credited her putting throughout the tournament.

"Other than the first round, I didn't hit too many good shots," she said. "My putter was on all week and it allowed me to hang on for the win."

Rigel Fernandes of Dubai won the boys division with a score of 216, nipping Zach Botts of Jonesborough, Tenn.

Carolinas women top Virginians

The Carolinas team ended a three-year drought and beat the Virginias team in the Women's Team Matches played at River Run Country Club in Davidson, N.C. Lea Anne Brown of Mount Pleasant was among the Carolinas team members and was co-captain this year. She will serve as captain for the next team matches. The Carolinas leads the series, 32-22.

First Tee girls golf clinic

The First Tee of Greater Charleston will hold an LPGA-USGA Girls Golf at the Links clinic from 4-6 p.m. Saturday at Patriots Point Links. The clinic is open to golfers ages 7-17, and there is a $10 charge which includes clinic and membership kit. Contact Lexie Brent at staff@thefirstteegreatercharleston.org to sign up.

Frost wins S.C. Open

Charles Frost of Charlotte had a bogey-free 69 for a 54-hole total of 205, 11-under par, to win the 59th South Carolina Open Championship by five shots this week at May River Golf Club in Bluffton. Former Mount Pleasant resident Ivan Schronce of Wilmington, N.C., who won this year's Carolinas Open, tied for second, while Charleston Southern golfer Jacobo Pastor was the low amateur, tying for ninth at 214.

Roy Meyers Junior Open

Winners from the 11th annual Roy Meyers Junior Open tournament played at Miler Country Club were: 10-under (9 holes) -- Brodie Blanton, 38; Luis Paez, 43. 11-12 (9 holes) -- J.R. Stark, 50; Barren Knight, 50. 13-15: Christian Woods, 82; Andrew Purcell, 85; Mason Hazel, 95. 16-18 -- Sam Myers, 83; Cason Woods, 85; Dylan Bunch, 95.

Summerville Hall of Fame tournament

Winners of the Summerville High School Athletic Hall of Fame tournament at Miler Country Club were: First low gross -- Gary Hartmann, Harry Blake, Charlie Tapp, Jimmy Bunch, 56. Second low gross -- Robert Pratt, Jack Pratt, William Pratt, Gary Ramage, 57; Kenny Walker, Steve LaPrad, Brent LaPrad, Darryl Tucker, 57. Charleston EGolf Tour

Jace Gause won the Charleston EGolf Tour event played at Wrenwoods Golf Course at Charleston Air Force Base with a score of 76. Eric Tobias and Mark Ducker tied for second with 81s in A Flight. Other flight winners were: B -- David Gwizdalski, 80; Case Collier, 80. C -- Jerry Young, 82; Rich Cairns, 89.
