Local election officials certified the results of this week's Democratic and Republican runoffs Thursday.

The winners in Berkeley, Charleston and Dorchester counties remained the same as those reported Tuesday night.

One of the closer contests was in the Republican runoff for Dorchester County Council District 2 between David Chinnis and James Stein. On Tuesday, Chinnis led Stein by 28 votes.

After certification, Chinnis gained one vote and Stein gained three, yielding a final result of Chinnis with 735 votes and Stein with 709.

In the GOP runoff for Berkeley County supervisor, the incumbent, Dan Davis, maintained his victory over U.S. Rep. Henry Brown.

Certified results show Davis with a final vote total of 8,911 to Brown's 7,071.

Bill Salisbury's victory over Sharon Shuler in the Berkeley County coroner's GOP runoff also was certified.

The final vote-count results remained unchanged in the Democratic runoff for Charleston County Council District 8. Anna B. Johnson received 542 votes and Karen H. Brown received 483.

Meanwhile, the State Election Commission will certify state and federal runoff results at 3 p.m. today.

There likely will be a mandatory recount in the District 6 GOP runoff between Nancy Harrelson and Jim Pratt, who were separated by just 112 votes out of 27,268 cast, according to unofficial results.

Pratt was leading the contest for the nomination. The winner faces Democratic House Majority Whip Jim Clyburn in November.

If the results today still show a difference of 1 percent or less in the vote totals, there will be a recount Monday involving all electronic, absentee and paper ballots in the 15 counties that make up the district. Locally, the district includes both rural and urban parts of Charleston, Berkeley, Dorchester and Colleton counties.
