Battery duo gets weekly honors
Charleston Battery defender Colin Falvey and midfielder Alioune Gueye were named to the USL Second Division Team of the Week.
This is Falvey's third appearance on the weekly team and the second selection for Gueye this season.
"Obviously both are very deserving of the honor," said Battery coach Mike Anhaeuser. "We're on a nice little roll to start the season and Colin and Alioune are both a big reason for our quick start."
Gueye scored the first goal in the Battery's 2-1 victory over Pittsburgh this past Saturday night. It was Gueye's first goal with the Battery.
"Alioune is more of a defensive-minded center midfielder, but I'd like for him to push forward a little more," Anhaeuser said.
"He has shown his quality in the final third of the field and he has a good scoring touch."
Falvey has started five games in the back for the Battery and is fourth on the team in minutes played with 450. Falvey has one assist on the season.
"Colin has been a very steady defender for us all season," Anhaeuser said. "He's a blue collar guy that has a tremendous work rate.
"He's gritty and irritating to play against. Forwards around the league are finding out pretty quickly that they don' like to play against him."
The Battery leaves on a two-game road trip later today. The club will take on Pittsburgh on Friday and Harrisburg on Saturday.
