Ambulance flips after collision
No one was injured when a Dorchester County EMS ambulance flipped on its side after a collision with another vehicle about 9 p.m. Friday, said Lance Cpl. Bob Beres of the S.C. Highway Patrol.
The ambulance was traveling west on U.S. Highway 78 in Ladson and was making a left turn into a gas station when a pickup truck struck the ambulance in the rear, Beres said. The impact caused the ambulance to flip over.
The ambulance driver and two EMS personnel on board were not injured. The ambulance was not carrying a patient.
The truck driver drove away without stopping and later jumped out of the truck, Beres said. He was arrested about two hours later.
The driver, Jeff Sctzer, 28, of Ladson, is charged with driving under the influence and leaving the scene of an accident, Beres said. Troopers were taking him to the Charleston County jail.
