An early morning fire heavily damaged a Captain D's restaurant on U.S. Highway 52 in Goose Creek on Friday. No one was hurt.

Goose Creek -- A fire that took more than 2 1/2 hours to contain destroyed a restaurant early Friday.

Goose Creek firefighters responded to a call at the Captain D's restaurant on U.S. Highway 52 at 2:26 a.m., Chief Steve Chapman said.

"When we got here, smoke was coming from almost everywhere," said Chapman.

Chapman said the fire was inside the walls and in the ceiling, making it hard to get to. More than 40 firefighters from six departments worked to bring the blaze under control.

Parts of the highway were closed as they fought to contain the fire.

No one was injured. Chapman said employees left the building at least two hours before it started.

He said the cause of the fire is under investigation, and it is not believed to be suspicious.
