Locals represented on All-Star teams

The South Carolina Football Coaches Association (SCFCA) announced the members of the 2009 Palmetto Champions All-Star Team, and three local players were selected: Timberland quarterback Cody Craig, James Island lineman Chad Hamilton and Goose Creek linebacker Malcolm Howard. Goose Creek's Chuck Reedy was named the Class AAAA Lower State coach of the year.

The Palmetto Champions, consisting of 25 high school football players and 10 high school football coaches, will be honored at a banquet on Dec. 3 in Columbia. From this list, a Palmetto Champions All-Star Lineman, Back, Specialty Team Player, and Coach of the Year will be announced live at the banquet. Also, an award for Distinguished Service will go to a non-football coach who supports S.C. high school football.

"We look forward to honoring the 2009 Palmetto Champions All-Star Team at our sixth annual banquet," said Greg Crolley, the banquet director. "Through this event we recognize excellence in football in all positions, regions and classifications, and we are glad our association can honor our players and coaches in this way."

Class AAAA Upper State: Back: Jatavius Stewart, Rock Hill. Lineman: Kelcy Charles, Greenwood.

Class AAAA Lower State: Back: Malcolm Howard, Goose Creek. Lineman: Chad Hamilton, James Island.

Class AAA Upper State: Back: DeAndre Hopkins, Daniel. Lineman: Matthew Ashley, Belton- Honea Path.
