A six-vehicle pileup on the Wando Bridge left Interstate 526 traffic at a standstill for the second day in a row.
Five people were injured after two cars and two pickup trucks were sandwiched between two tractor-trailers in the eastbound lanes about 7:30 a.m. Tuesday.
The eastbound lanes were shut down for about an hour, Highway Patrol Lance Cpl. Bob Beres said.
One truck driver was charged with driving too fast for conditions, Beres said.
Traffic was backed up to Interstate 26. Motorists attempting to avoid the traffic jam by using the Ravenel Bridge also were met with stop-and-go traffic due to the increased congestion.
It was the second time in two days that traffic was shut down along I-526. Three wrecks in both the eastbound and westbound lanes on the Don Holt Bridge shut down traffic Monday morning.
