Clemson Coach Dabo Swinney officially named Kyle Parker the starting quarterback following practice Monday. Swinney said Parker won the job due to his grasp of the offense and strong throwing arm.

Dating back to the spring, in five scrimmages Parker, a redshirt freshman, threw seven touchdowns against no interceptions. Will Korn threw four touchdowns and five interceptions. Swinney said Korn will play in every game. Swinney said he told the quarterbacks of his decision on Sunday night.

"Based on where we are right now there has been some separation," Swinney said. "At this point felt it was important to start building that continuity we need."

Both Parker and Korn were highly-touted Elite 11 quarterbacks out of high school. Parker has impressive bloodlines as his father, Carl, played wide receiver in the NFL. Korn, a sophomore, entered Clemson three seasons ago with much fanfare as star at nearby Byrnes High.

Korn played in five games last season, completing 26 of 38 pass for 216 yards with a touchdown and interception.

"They both have a good grasp of the offensive," Swinney said. "it’s just Kyle gives us a more explosive player at the position."
