"LOVE'S FIRE": The College of Charleston's theater department opens its 2009-10 season with a production of "Love's Fire," six playlets set to sonnets by William Shakespeare. Performances are scheduled for 8 p.m. Thursday through Saturday, as well as Aug. 27-29, 31 and Sept. 1 and 3 p.m. Aug. 23 and 30 in the Chapel Theatre, 172 Calhoun St. $15 general, $10 C of C student/faculty/staff/senior. "THE LITTLE DOG LAUGHED": The Village Playhouse presents its production of Douglas Carter Beane's "The Little Dog Laughed" at 8 p.m. Thursday through Saturday and Aug. 28-29 and at 5 p.m. Aug. 23 at 730 Coleman Blvd., Mount Pleasant. THEATRE 99: The Have Nots! and Theatre 99 are offering four shows this week. At 8 p.m. Wednesday, it is Laugh for a Lincoln with the five-person improv group Cats Hugging Cats and the two-woman show Hot Pants. Tickets are $5. And at 8 p.m. Friday, it's the new improv show The Pinata for $10. At 8 p.m. Saturday, it's the Have Nots, the longest-running show in Charleston ($12.50) and at 10 p.m., it's Senior PGA featuring comedians Zach Ward and Jeremy McDonald. STEDE BONNET: Pure Theatre presents the interactive theatrical event "The Tryal of Major Stede Bonnet alias the Gentleman Pirate." The performance takes place both inside and outside the Powder Magazine at 79 Cumberland St. Note: The audience stands throughout the 40-minute show. BENEFIT CONCERT: The Windjammer will host five local bands (The Fire Apes, Almost Brothers Band, Hed Shop Boys, Super Deluxe and Steel Petals) in a concert to benefit the Roper St. Francis Cancer Center and Dragon Boat Charleston. CHAMBER MUSIC: Chamber Music Charleston presents the final concert in the 2009 Old Exchange Summer Concert Series at 7 p.m. Tuesday. Soprano Suzanne Fleming-Atwood, flutist Regina Helcher Yost, cellist Timothy O'Malley and harpsichordist Julia Harlow present a program of music from the Baroque era.
