Charleston ties Rochester, in sole possession of first
Rochester, NY. — The Charleston Battery tied the Rochester Rhinos, 1-1, Saturday night at Marina Auto Stadium in front of 5,789.
Randi Patterson scored a second-half goal to help earn Charleston a point as the Battery (8-3-8, 32 points) moves into sole possession of first place in the USL First Division.
Rochester opened the scoring in the 28th minute after midfielder Tiger Fitzpatrick worked his way past his marker on the far side. Fitzpatrick rolled the ball to the middle of the penalty-area where forward John Menyongar blasted a shot past the goalie from eight yards out.
The Battery tied the game in the 37th minute with a nicely taken goal by Patterson. Patterson turned past Rochester's Brent Sancho at the top of the box, took a quick step inside, then curled the ball into the bottom right corner of the goal.
The Battery hosts the Carolina RailHawks on Friday at 7:30 p.m.
