Lovable Twinkle Toes getting a new owner
Twinkle Toes is back on her feet.
After recovering from a cracked pelvis and torn ligament while living in foster care for the last seven months, the 3-year-old basset hound will finally greet her new owner, Patty Andrews, today.
Carolina Basset Hound Rescue brought Twinkle Toes to Charleston in January for surgery on her eyelid and recuperation from heartworms and injuries after she was hit by a car.
Now Twinkle Toes looks like a new dog, said Carolina rescue biography coordinator Kim Holstein. When Twinkle Toes arrived seven months ago, she was underweight, beat up and didn't have a lot of energy. Now Holstein said it's hard to keep up with her.
"She's very lovable and sociable," Holstein said. "She'll crawl right on your lap and give hugs and kisses."
Twinkle Toes will fly in style to Concord, N.C., today, to meet Andrews, on the private plane of Holstein and her husband, Ted. This will be the sixth rescue mission for the plane, nicknamed Hound Dog One, but Twinkle Toes is the first dog to have come full circle after being flown into Charleston with Ted Holstein after she was first rescued.
The droopy-eyed dog will be Andrews' first pet, and Kim Holstein said the new owner is ecstatic.
"We can't wait to deliver her to a new owner who will spoil her, because Twinkle Toes deserved to be spoiled," Holstein said.
