Authorities are investigating what they say is a suspicious fire that destroyed a downtown home this morning.

Charleston firefighters responded to 2 Kracke Street at about 4:30 a.m. and found the large white house consumed in flames, Mark Ruppel, public information officer said.

Ruppel said the fire started on the front porch and spread to the attic. He said fire and police officials are still investigating whether it could be connected to a series of arsons at downtown structures.

Ruppel said the house was under renovation and that no one was living there at the time of the fire.
