COLUMBIA - South Carolina Republicans are gearing up for their big weekend.

The state GOP holds its Silver Elephant Banquet Friday night with U.S. Sen. Bob Corker of Tennessee as the keynote speaker. Corker is an Orangeburg native.

The party's convention will end on Saturday with the GOP naming a new leader as Katon Dawson gives up the party's chairmanship.

Spartanburg businesswoman Karen Floyd is expected to succeed Dawson. Floyd currently has no announced opposition in the race to lead the party.

Meanwhile, state conventions during the past few weeks have elected mostly new leadership at the upper ranks of the party.
