Academy celebrates with 'Masquerade'

Archibald Rutledge Academy's Prom of '09, with the theme "Masquerade," was held in the school gymnasium April 18.

Seniors Tommy Rowland and Ashleigh McClellan were crowned the prom king and queen, respectively.

Sophomores help

Academy sophomores are now delivering lunches to elderly citizens in the town of McClellanville every Friday.

Shrimp Festival

The school's students spent two days peeling shrimp, making kebabs, cooking barbecue and setting up for the academy's 33rd annual Lowcountry Shrimp Festival.

Exam schedule

Exams will be given May 25-27.

Awards Day will be 8:30- 10 a.m. May 29 and graduation will be held at Hampton Plantation at 4 p.m. that day.

Field trip news

The academy's middle and high school students went to see the movie "Earth" at Palmetto Grande in Mount Pleasant on April 24 for Earth Day.

Seventh- and eighth-graders took a field trip to Bull's Island on April 27.

The seventh and eighth grades also went to a Teaching Kids About the Environment campground site.

Teaching KATE is a three-day residential, interdisciplinary, hands-on learning experience with classes in forestry, soils, water ecology and wildlife resources.

They were chaperoned by Upper School science teacher Becky Sellers.
