Man charged in killing
WALTERBORO — Authorities charged a Colleton County man with murder in the early morning shooting death of a Summerville man on Tuesday.
Colleton County Sheriff's investigators charged Jimmie Lee Garland Jr., 37, of Featherbed Road in Round O with murder in the death of Michael Ray Trappier.
Trappier, 31, of 110 Miley Road in Summerville died of a gunshot wound to the chest at 2:10 a.m. Tuesday, Colleton County Coroner Richard Harvey said.
Chief Deputy Ted Stanfield said deputies responded to a mobile home at 75 Pennsylvania Ave., about three miles south of Cottageville, at 1:40 a.m. and found Trappier in the front yard with a gunshot wound.
Colleton County Fire and Rescue paramedics attempted to perform CPR on Trappier but he was eventually pronounced dead at the scene.
Stanfield said both Garland and Ayonna S. Brothers, the homeowner, were at the scene when deputies arrived. Deputies arrested and charged Garland with murder based on their initial investigation, he said.
Stanfield and Sheriff George Malone declined to say what investigators believe led to the shooting, citing the ongoing investigation.
