COLUMBIA — South Carolina homered four times and behind seven innings of two-hit ball from sophomore right-hander Sam Dyson defeated fifth-ranked LSU 7-3 in the first game of a three-game SEC series at Carolina Stadium. The win improved USC to 14-4 and 2-2 in the SEC while the LSU fell to 15-5 and 2-2 in conference play. The second game of the series is today at 4 p.m.

Dyson (3-1) and LSU starter Anthony Ranaudo were both effective on the mound. Dyson allowed just one run on two hits while striking out five batters and walking six.

Ranaudo matched him with seven innings, in which he allowed two runs on three hits with nine strikeouts and two walks.

The Gamecocks got homers from Whit Merrifield and Andrew Crisp, Jackie Bradley Jr. and Bobby Haney.
