Charleston County sheriff's deputies reopened the Limehouse Bridge at 10:30 a.m. after it was shut down for three hours because of a fatal accident.
A person was killed and another suffered life-threatening injuries in the wreck, which involved three cars and a motorcycle and happened around 7:30 a.m., said public information officer Maj. John Clark. "We do anticipate making some charges in this case," he said.
One of the cars was traveling over the bridge onto Johns Island when it went across the service lane into oncoming traffic and caused a chain reaction of collisions, Clark said. The other cars and the motorcycle involved were traveling off Johns Island.
All four of the drivers were injured, with three transported to Medical University Hospital, Clark said. Their names, along with the name of the driver who died at the scene, were expected to be released this afternoon. None of the cars had any passengers.
