A fire that damaged a North Charleston laboratory on Thursday night was arson, fire officials said.

A passerby first noticed flames and smoke coming from the back of the AccuDiagnotics testing facility at an office part on 2470 Mall Drive around 9 p.m. Firefighters spent more than 20 minutes bringing the flames under control.

Bianca Sancic, a public information officer for the North Charleston Fire Department, said that investigators did not want to release specifics about how the fire started, or whether an accelerant was used.

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call the state's arson hotline at 800-92-ARSON.
