Charleston Police have filed a third felony DUI charge against a woman accused of causing a crash that killed a local chef early Sunday.

Public Information Officer Charles Francis said the additional charge was filed against Amy Finch McCormick, 37, of James Island, because her 3-year-old son also was injured in the wreck that killed Brett Maynard and injured his wife, Jill.

Police originally reported that the son was not injured, but corrected that statement and the boy's age on Wednesday.

The child suffered a spinal fracture, a laceration to his thigh and a ventilator to was being used to assist his breathing, an affidavit said.

McCormick faces an additional charge of child endangerment in connection with the 1:30 a.m. wreck.

She remains in the hospital. Her condition was not known Wednesday.

Her bond has been set for $300,000.

Jill Maynard was released from Medical University Hospital. Her ankles were injured, a co-worker said.

Authorities said the Maynards were driving westbound on the James Island connector when their car was struck head-on by McCormick's car going the wrong direction in their lane.

Brett Maynard, 35, of James Island, died at the scene.

Friends said Maynard was a highly regarded chef who was well-known from working several years at Fulton Five in downtown Charleston and, most recently, at his job at 39 Rue de Jean.

He also operated his own restaurant, Twizt, on James Island, for a while.

Jill Maynard has been a general manager with the Charleston High Cotton restaurant since it opened in 1999.
