This is certainly quite on a honor for our quaint little town: Waterfront Park has been named one of the nation's 10 Great Public Spaces in 2008, perched proudly on a list alongside landmarks like New York City's Central Park.

The now 6.5-acre park, which was completed in 1990, was chosen for its unrestricted views of the Cooper River, its public amenities and its role in revitalizing downtown Charleston.

The American Planning Assocation created the list, which also included Union Station in Washington, D.C., and Pioneer Courthouse Square in Portland, Ore.
