Fire ravages I'On home
MOUNT PLEASANT A sleeping family escaped from a house that caught fire in the I'On subdivision off Mathis Ferry Road early this morning.
A neighbor first noticed something wrong and woke up the couple and their children at 38 Fernandina St., Battalion Chief Leon Lantagne said. Firefighters were dispatched about 1:20 a.m.
"You could see it burning from the Ravenel Bridge," Lantagne said.
Crews arrived to see flames engulfing the garage and spreading to the house, he said. They rescued family's dog, he said. It would take them about 90 minutes to bring the blaze under control.
The two-story neo-traditional house fronts on a man-made lake. The morning light showed heavy fire damage to about half the outside. Latagne said there was water damage throughout.
An investigation was just getting underway this morning and the cause was not immediately known.
