Police catch final suspect in slaying
The final suspect wanted in the beating death of a man on James Island two years ago was captured at a Minneapolis bus stop Friday by U.S. Marshals and local police, Charleston police said.
Authorities identified Rashid Abdullah Malik, 32, as a suspect in Gerard Roper's slaying earlier this week. Roper, 29, was found dead in a Fleming Road apartment on March 9, 2006. Police have said they never determined a motive.
Also arrested this week were Armon R. Dickerson, 28, of Cypress Avenue, who is charged with murder and kidnapping, and Selena K. Rouse, 28, of Sanford, Fla., who is charged with accessory after the fact of murder.
The main suspect, 31-year-old William Oliver Dickerson, faces the death penalty. He has been awaiting trial since his arrest shortly after Roper's slaying. The Dickersons are brothers.
Malik had been at the bus stop when the law caught up with him around 7 p.m. Friday, said Charles Francis, Charleston police public information officer. Police think he had been traveling to Washington state but weren't sure why he chose that destination.
