A man was struck and killed by a car while crossing Ashley Phosphate Road near Interstate 26 Monday evening, North Charleston police said.
Authorities responded to the area between InTown Suites and a McDonald's restaurant around 7:30 p.m. The man was lying near a crosswalk in the lanes of traffic headed toward the interstate.
Witnesses said the man stepped into the road and was hit by a Chevrolet Malibu, police public information officer Spencer Pryor said.
The man, whose name wasn't immediately available, died at the scene. No charges had been filed.
