About David

David W. MacDougall joined The Post and Courier in 1986 as a features writer and switched to the police beat in 1990. From 1995 to 2003, he was webmaster and principal architect of the newspaper's first website, In 2003, he moved to the the company's IS department as an email and Unix systems administrator and data transformation specialist. In 2009, he returned to the newsroom as a reporter, covering crime. In 2011, he was named a web editor on the company's Digital News Desk. David, a New Jersey native, attended Rutgers University. Prior to a mid-life career switch to journalism, he worked as a firefighter, an alcoholism counselor, a real estate salesman and an auto mechanic. He lives on James Island with his wife, Kathy. They have two daughters and two granddaughters.
