By Chuck Hooker: The subject of the attached image presented itself this spring. I have laying hens in my backyard, and every so often I will come home to find a snake has chosen our coop for an easy meal. I found this Eastern Rat Snake in the coop, sleeping off the 3 eggs he had dined on. I have a no harm policy; snakes like this are an important predator in our suburban ecosystem. I just scoop these guys up and relocate them to a safe area across the Stono River on John's Island. We took a drive, the snake and I, and I let him go. He was so lethargic that he didn't want to budge. I was able to make images from almost every angle This monochromatic image - "Snake in the Grass" - stands out for me... look closely and you will see the eggs in his distended belly Enjoy!

Tide and time have weathered the rope and dock, giving them character and faded hues. The endless expanse of marsh was dressed in varying shades of summer green. Gentle ripples on the water, soft clouds, and lazy pelicans perched on crusty pilings completed the scene.
