Lowcountry Oyster Festival
Sunday, January 27th, 2013 1 of 36
“The world’s largest oyster festival” celebrated 30 years Sunday with a bigger and better event at Boone Hall Plantation in Mount Pleasant. Named one of the “top 20 events in the southeast” by Southeastern Tourism Society, the festival lived up to its title with more than 80,000 pounds of oysters, a selection of domestic and imported beers, wine, a food court featuring a variety of local restaurants, the shucking and eating contests, live music, a children’s area complete with pony rides and jump castles, and more. Presented by the Charleston Restaurant Association, the festival acted as a fundraiser for local charities The Ronald McDonald House, Hollings Cancer Center, Hospitality Heroes, Shriners Hospitals for Children and the Charleston Science Materials Resource Center.
