Former Charleston City Councilman Paul Tinkler is the first candidate to announce that he will file for the vacant S.C. Senate District 41 seat.
Tinkler, a Democrat, said he will run even if Republican Lt. Gov. Glenn McConnell enters the race.
"I think Glenn has done an excellent job," Tinkler said. "I just think I would bring a fresh perspective."
A lawyer with 34 years experience, Tinkler said he is interested in correcting faults in the state's legal system and working on state-municipal issues, such as annexation.
