10 years of cruise ship controversy
Many of the competing views about Charleston's cruise ship industry were cemented in place a decade ago, when Celebrity Cruises decided to home-port the 1,870-passenger ship Galaxy in Charleston.
At the time, the city was preparing to be visited by cruise ships about 40 times a year.
Today, the debate about the pros and cons of the industry continues, with the Carnival Cruise Lines' 2,056-passenger Fantasy now home-ported in Charleston, and 84 cruise ship visits expected in 2012.
Here's a look back at where the issue stood in 2002, when the front-page story "Cruise Control" was published in The Post and Courier.
