McKissick wins high school coach of the year award from NFL

INDIANAPOLIS — Summerville High School football coach John McKissick today won the prestigious Don Shula NFL High School Coach of the Year Award.

McKissick beat out two other finalists: John Herrington of Farmington Hills (Michigan) and Hal Lamb of Calhoun (Georgia).

All three of the men will be honored at a banquet in Indianapolis that is scheduled to be televised by NBC at 9 p.m. Saturday.

McKissick, who is the winningest football coach at any level with 594 career victories, plans to attend his first Super Bowl Game with his wife Joan on Sunday when the New York Giants play the New England Patriots.

McKissick received a $10,000 cash award and a $15,000 grant for the Green Wave football program.
