Former Summerville High School football star A.J. Green was asked by NCAA and Georgia officials not comment on official inquiries into a Miami party hosted by a sports agent, but he found ways to deny involvement during SEC Football Media Days Thursday.
“We can’t make any comments but I’ve never been to Miami,” said the Georgia preseason All-American and former Summerville High School receiver.
The party, growing more infamous and expansive by the day, was held over Memorial Day weekend and involved top NFL draft prospects. South Carolina tight end Weslye Saunders and Alabama defensive end Marcell Dareus have been interviewed about the party by the NCAA and officials at their respective schools.
“It’s not my place to comment and I don’t feel like I need to,” Green added Thursday. But late Wednesday Green told an Athens, Ga., reporter he was home in Summerville for Memorial Day weekend. “There was a buzz going around that I went.”
Green said Thursday he was eager to “get back on the playing field.”
“A lot of people are counting us out,” Green said. “But I believe this team is really special.”
