The Bishop of the Episcopal Diocese of South Carolina has called a convention to discuss the future of the conservative diocese.
The Very Rev. Mark Lawrence made the call during a Thursday address to clergy of the diocese representing 75 parishes in the lower and eastern part of the state.
Lawrence expressed concern about the direction of the national Episcopal Church which, at its convention last month, authorized bishops to bless same-sex unions.
Lawrence says the national church is following what he called "the false Gospel of Indiscriminate Inclusivity." He says that core doctrines of the faith are being "deconstructed."
He says the diocese needs to find a place to thrive.
The convention is set Oct 24 in Mount Pleasant.
