The Moncks Corner man who was found shot to death Friday in rural Dorchester County had been dead several days, according to Dorchester County Coroner Chris Nisbet.
The body of Drew Mitsuo Shumway, 24, of St. Johns Bethel Street was discovered in a shed off S.C. Highway 61 near the Edisto River on Friday afternoon.
He died of a single gunshot wound to the back of the head, according to Nisbet. The death is being investigated as a homicide.
Shumway was shot between April 5 and April 9, Nisbet said.
Shumway's girlfriend reported him missing five days before he was found, according to the Berkeley County Sheriff's Office.
She told deputies Shumway had left the house about 3 p.m. April 5 to go pick up a friend, according to an incident report.
She said she never heard from him after that and her calls went to his voice mail.
A woman found Shumway's body on the floor of a shed when she went to check on a couch she had stored there, according to an incident report.
He had no criminal record, according to court documents.
