Communities In Schools, a dropout prevention organization, is looking for volunteer mentors who want to work with at-risk students.

Charleston's group is part of the national Communities In Schools organization, and it is one of several affiliates that received a grant to provide additional mentoring services to students.

"The Communities In Schools network is the largest provider of integrated student supports in the country," said Jane Riley Gambrell, executive director of Communities In Schools of the Charleston area, in a statement. "Our model addresses the challenges that students face every day both in and outside the classroom. By connecting young people with caring adults - trained site coordinators and volunteer mentors - Communities In Schools provides positive role models who encourage them to stay in school and achieve their potential."
