ESTERO, Fla. - Forward Luke Greiner provided the game-winning goal in the third period as the South Carolina Stingrays defeated the Florida Everblades, 2-1, on Friday night at Germain Arena.
Stingrays forward Igor Gongalsky opened the scoring on the power play late in the first period, tapping a pass from forward Lindsay Sparks past the blocker of Everblades goaltender Trevor Cann (L, 21 saves on 23 shots) at 14:08. Defenseman Ryan Grimshaw picked up the second assist.
Former Stingrays forward Trevor Bruess tied the contest 49 seconds into the second period, lifting a shot over the glove of Stingrays netminder Jeff Jakaitis (W, 29 saves on 30 shots) from the top of the goal crease.
Greiner reclaimed the lead for the Stingrays at 6:51 of the final frame, knocking a rebound past the right pad of Cann. Forward Wayne Simpson registered the lone assist.
The Stingrays (25-7-1-2) finished the game 1-for-4 on the man advantage, while the Everblades (20-11-1-1) went 0-for-2.
The Stingrays battle the Everblades at 7 p.m. Saturday and return to the North Charleston Coliseum to host the Greenville Road Warriors at 7:05 p.m. Jan. 14 for 2x2 Tuesday.
