An apartment on Charleston's East Side was damaged by fire Sunday.

The fire broke out shortly before 6 p.m. on the first floor of a two-story triplex on Nassau Street, Charleston Fire Department Community Educator Ryan Kunitzer said. North Charleston firefighters also responded.

Crews on scene reported the fire to be out at 6:13 p.m. Fire and smoke damage was contained to the first-floor apartment. No injuries were reported. The American Red Cross was called to assist the residents.
