Another coffee shop is hoping to move into the upper peninsula's Wagener Terrace neighborhood.
The owners of Black Tap Coffee at 701/2 Beaufain St. are eyeing 106 Grove St. for their second location.
The city Board of Zoning Appeals deferred their decision on the coffee shop's takeover of the space until Jan. 7.
Ross Jett, who co-owns Black Tap with Jayme Scott, lives in the neighborhood and said he sees potential for new businesses in the transforming neighborhood.
"The demographic is getting better for us up there. Everybody that's moving to Charleston that wants to be downtown, that's where they can afford to be," he said. "If it does work out for us it's going to be a great community hub."
Several restaurant chains will be open on Christmas this year to help feed those who won't be eating figgy pudding at home.
The IHOP in Mount Pleasant at 1787 Highway 17 and Denny's at 2280 Ashley Phosphate Road in North Charleston both will be whipping up breakfast, lunch and dinner for 24 hours on Dec. 25.
Steak 'n shake at 4821 Tanger Outlet Blvd. in North Charleston opens at 11 a.m. Wednesday. Starbucks will be open as well, though store hours vary at each cafe.
Rug Decor of Charleston at 946 Orleans Road is going out of business. The business adjacent to World Market in the West Ashley Shoppes has cut rug prices by as much as 90 percent.

Baker Motor Co.'s Charleston Fashion Week has announced Kendra Barnes as the winner of the bridal designer category. The Savnnah resident will showcase her original offerings at Charleston Weddings Magazine's Spring Bridal Show on March 22 in Marion Square.
