SLED is investigating after a Colleton County sheriff's deputy shot a 17-year-old male early Sunday morning, a sheriff's office official said today.
The 17-year-old male was shot three times in the buttocks and lower back near Beachwood Road and Green Pond Highway and was taken by ambulance to the Medical University Hospital in stable condition, according to a source at the scene.
Colleton County Sheriff's Lt. Amye Stivender said the deputy was not hurt. She referred all other questions to the State Law Enforcement Division because they investigate all officer-involved shootings.
A SLED representative confirmed the investigation Sunday, but gave no other details.
The shooting happened near the site of a recent shootout that resulted in several arrests.
