HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C. -- Hilton Head Island officials want to remove two shrimp boats that have been stranded in Jarvis Creek since August.
The Island Packet of Hilton Head reported that the town council has instructed staff members to negotiate an agreement with the boat owners to take over ownership of the vessels and move them.
It's expected to cost About $175,000.
The Department of Health and Environmental Control says the owners have missed a deadline to remove the boats.
The Lady Essie tried to tow the Dianie from a dock Aug. 14. Lady Essie Capt. James Murray said he was unfamiliar with the creek and both boats became stuck.
Murray said he welcomes the town's help getting the boat out of the creek. Murray said he cannot afford to move it himself.
