The Charleston County GOP has endorsed music store president Charles Fox for the vacant Charleston County School Board seat.
John Steinberger, chairman of the party, said they think Fox has the problem-solving ability, critical-thinking skills and willingness to think outside the box to come up with solutions for better education.
Fox is president of Fox Music House in North Charleston, and he founded the Charleston Marathon, which raises money for the arts in the school district.
Steinberger said he's talked to the leadership of the county legislative delegation about its choice, and it's likely that their endorsement would carry some weight with the Republican majority delegation.
"We hope they'll support our pick," he said.
Lawmakers will nominate someone for the seat on Monday night. Its pick will have to be approved by Gov. Nikki Haley, and the new appointee would serve on the board until the general election in November 2014.
