Michael Banks smashed the Turkey Day Run record with a time of 14:27.26 on Thursday morning to win the mens’ division of the 36th annual event.
Banks breezed to victory on a cold and windy day. He covered the 5K course in downtown Charleston without any difficulty, finishing nearly 65 seconds faster than runner-up Carlos Renjifo.
Lauren Goss won the women’s division with a time of 16:55.92 to defeat Harriott Kelly, who was clocked in 17:28.68.
A record 7,386 runners and walkers signed up for the event, while a record 6,558 crossed the finish line.
