Greenville — South Carolina wrapped up a four-game in five-day set Wednesday night with a 2-1 shootout loss to Greenville at the Bon Secours Wellness Arena.
The Stingrays (10-2-1-2) kicked off the scoring at 7:26 of the first period when forward Chad Painchaud forced a turnover and slipped a shot between the legs of Road Warriors goaltender Jeff Malcolm (32 saves on 33 shots) on top of the crease.
After a scoreless middle frame, Road Warriors forward Brandon Hynes capitalized on the power play 20 seconds into the third period, knocking a rebound past Stingrays netminder Jeff Jakaitis (30 saves on 31 shots) to tie the contest at 1. In overtime, both teams exchanged scoring chances with the Stingrays taking a 5-4 shot advantage, but neither side found the back of the net.
Road Warriors forwards Jordie Johnston and Hynes scored in the first and second round of the shootout and Malcom stopped all four Stingrays shooters to preserve the win. The Stingrays ended the contest 0-for-5 on the power play, while the Road Warriors (5-7-1-1) went 1 for 2.
